An annual event with Paul and Gen occurred every summer for a long weekend of golf, dining out, a few drinks, swimming and lots of laughter at their cottage at Lake Winnisquam. Paul's sister (my wife Edie) and I always arrived Friday night and stayed through late Sunday afternoon. It was always the highlight of our summer.
For Paul and I the 18 holes of golf was always our best time together. Paul was a pretty good golfer and shot around 100. Not bad considering we only went out one or twice per year. Another favorite time with Paul was attending Boston College football games together. Our seats were on the BC side, row 30 or 31 which is at the very top of the stadium below the radio announcer booth -- what a view! We could have been at ground level with all the other old timers, but we decided to climb the 97 steps as long as we could... and we did.
Paul and I were always amazed at how much BC had grown from our years there (I graduated in 1955 and Paul in 1966). We were also astonished with the runaway tuition - now around $52,500 per year, but in 1955 it was $400 (that is not a typo)!
I loved my time with Paul. He was more of a brother than a brother-in-law. Paul, Edie and I will miss you! Pray for all of us and may God's light shine upon you forever.
