Josephine L. (Petrosino) Amato's Obituary
Josephine L. (Petrosino) Amato, 88, of Methuen, former longtime resident of Florida passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on January 31, 2021. Josephine was preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul Amato in August 2010. They celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage together. Born in Lawrence, MA, on April 17, 1932, to the late Rinaldo and Philippa (Cataldo) Petrosino, she attended Lawrence High School graduating with the Class of 1949. Josephine was well known as an incredibly hard worker in all that she did. She was employed for 30 years at Jo-Gal and Jonell Shoes, and as an electronics tester for Western Electric. A lifelong devout Catholic, she was a communicant at Holy Rosary Church and a member of St. Rita’s Sodality. In her later years, she attended Saint Lucy’s.
Josephine enjoyed many activities in life; traveling, spending time with her friends, line dancing at the Methuen Senior Center and enjoying the occasional game of cards with her friends, as well as her weekly luncheons with “the girls”. Her greatest treasure was her family, and she was devoted to showing them her love. Everyone whom she spent time with can attest to her great love and compassion. Josie loved people and especially hosting large gatherings and holidays, where she would be making sure that everyone had plenty to eat and was having a good time. Everyone felt welcomed and loved in her presence.
Josephine is survived by her four loving children: her two daughters, Judy Winters and her husband Jay of Conway, NH, Kathy Amato of Methuen; and her two sons, Paul Amato Jr. of Andover, John Amato and his wife Colette of York, ME. She was the cherished grandmother to her seven grandchildren: Ryan and his wife Kristin, Cristin and her husband Cameron, Nicole and her husband Brian, Anthony, Nicholas, Allison and her husband Shane, and Jessica. She was also the great-grandmother of nine. Josephine is survived by one brother, John Petrosino, one sister, Rita Garneau and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by one sister, Flora Llorca, and two brothers Benedetto and Rinaldo Petrosino.
Visitation for Josephine will be held on Monday, February 8, 2021 from 4-7 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 11 AM at St Lucy’s Parish, 254 Merrimack Street, Methuen. Entombment to follow at Saint Mary’s- Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 29 Barker Street, Lawrence. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, face masks will be required at the funeral home and the church, and social distancing must be followed. If you have a health or other underlying concern, please do not attend. Josephine’s family will understand and respect your decision.
