At Mary Immaculate, my father, Richard Bellemare, was blessed to have John as his neighbor in same room. John always had a warm smile, very kind social and created laughter now and again. The memory I will always keep in my heart is the ritual John started each evening before bedtime to wish dad a goodnight sleep. The first time I saw John give my dad a handshake with a warm smile. Telling him to never stop smiling. He said Goodnight Richard have restful sleep and God Bless you. My father hung tightly to his hand with the biggest smile on his face that I have ever seen. And he said back to John. "God Bless you, John." You are a really good man and with such sincerity he said and I love you, John, as he looked straight in John's eyes. I think my dad's eyes filled with tears. I know my eyes did. John shook my hand as well and said God Bless you too, Michelle. The first time I felt the power of his words I knew they came from a powerful and spiritual connection to God. I said God Bless you too John and we love you and Ellen too. My fathers smile was still on his face eyes wide open. Smile stayed on my face as well. To see my dad return his words to John with such love and sincerity. I saw my dad change. At that. Dry moment It was so heartwarming. Every night he would crack a joke and say God Bless you to my dad, to me and to many others who crossed his path or who took care of him. My brother Marc and sister-in law Wendy was on FaceTime with my dad and I. They saw and heard this exchange and both said that was so special. And touching to their heart. Dad said God Bless you to Marc and Wendy. They said it back to dad and I. They could not believe how special that was for them and for my dad and I.
Ellen too had ritual said Richard always keep that smile it is amazing. She would throw him a kiss and dad would try to do same by squeezing his lip with his fingers and throwing one back at her. she would say I got it! And pretended it almost knocked her over. Dad would smile and laugh and we would say God bless you Ellen and we love you too.
John's words and all that he and Ellen have done for my dad and for me will never be forgotten. John is a good friend to my dad and to me as well We were blessed to have John and Ellen in our lives. It was so nice to meet some visiting family members as well.
I walked into dad's room and could not help the tears that rolled down my face to see the empty bed , etc I have closed the curtain between the section of room hoping dad will feel John's presence may be still be there. He will be greatly missed. Best part ... john is only a whisper away.
To keep with ritual right now ...God Bless you John and Ellen too and we love you ! seems appropriate to say
Sending Blessings to all from Richard Bellemare and his daughter Michelle
