I admire and respect George Demers and am proud that he let me into his circle of friends. I consider George to be one of the finest examples of Christian masculinity, a man who devoted his life to making the lives of others better. And he devoted himself to saving troubled and endangered children, truly a noble way to use the courage and talents that God gave him.
George saw a lot of the less noble side of life, but he never let it make him cynical. It seems instead that George did everything he could to make the lives of his family and friends better and more happy. George loved people, and we loved him back. When you were with George, you never felt he wanted to be anywhere except there with you.
George was a quintessential family man. He loved his wife Nancy and always showed it. He loved and was proud of both his sons. He was the husband and father that every family should have.
I spent many hours walking on beautiful Wells Beach with George, usually talking, and sometimes arguing, but enjoying every minute of his company. I will continue to walk that beach, with George in my heart.
George was my friend. I love him and I will miss him forever.
