George E. Demers III's Obituary
George Edward Demers III, 72, of Methuen, Massachusetts passed away on December 14, 2021.
George was born on August 7, 1949 to George E. Demers Jr. and Dorothy “Dolly” Demers in Lowell, Massachusetts. After graduating from Lowell High School he joined the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1972. When he returned home he worked for Mass Electric, joining his father. From there he would pursue a degree in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
After graduation he started a career as a social worker for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services. George spent decades in service to the state helping children and families of all ages in a variety of ways.
In 1994, he met Nancy (Costigan) Winslow and they wed in 1995. Nancy had a son Derek from a previous marriage who George was a loving step-father to. They also went on to have one child of their own, George E. Demers IV.
After retiring in 2009, George spent his time tending to his beloved lawn, rooting for the Red Sox and Patriots, always reading, and being a caretaker of military history.
George is predeceased by his parents and his in-laws William and Elaine Costigan. He is survived by his wife Nancy; his sisters Ruth Demers and Dorothy (Demers) Maschio; his two sons; Derek and George; and the daughter he never had, Melissa Guilmette.
Friends and guests are invited to call on Tuesday, December 21, 2021 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home immediately following calling hours, beginning promptly at 6:00 PM.
