Ernest Naylor Jr.'s Obituary
Ernest Naylor, Jr. (Ernie) passed away at the Holy Family Hospital on August 31, 2021. He was born on October 18, 1948 and was the only child of the late Irene (Burdin) Naylor & Ernest Naylor Sr. of Methuen. He was a 1967 graduate of Tenney High School in Methuen and enlisted in the Navy shortly after. As a youngster, he worked at Mann Orchards and later worked at Admiral Folding Box, Bolton Emerson. Ernie worked for the town of Methuen for many years in heavy equipment operations until his retirement in 2002.
Ernie loved fixing things and always offered help to anyone who needed it. He had a great love for vegetable gardening and was a fishing enthusiast. He spent many summers at his parent’s camp on Sandy Pond, in Wakefield, NH, and always appreciated the well-stocked lake.
Ernie is survived by his companion and best friend of 20 years, Janice (Dawson) Allen of Methuen and his little dog, Jackson, whom he loved so much. Ernie was very close to Janice’s 3 children, their spouses, and their children who all loved to sit with “grampy” Ernie when he was talking about one of his adventures. He had a way of telling a story that drew you to him and his boisterous laugh would have the entire room laughing with him. He will be missed by all and especially by the rest of the Dawson/Allen family. Ernie leaves many close friends and dear cousins----Jolyn Burdin, Keith Burdin, & Sheila Burdin of Methuen and William Burdin & wife Joanne of Windham, NH.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Ernie’s life by gathering for his calling hours on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 from 4 – 8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Thursday at St. Monica Parish, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 47 Highland Ave, Salem, MA 01970.
