Elaine M. Najuch's Obituary
Methuen – Elaine M. (Cassidy) Najuch, 93, of Methuen, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the Meadows Health Center in North Andover. She was the beloved wife of the late Matthew (“Mike”) J. Najuch, who passed on the same date 31 years earlier.
Born in Lawrence on June 17, 1926, Elaine was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Ryan) Cassidy. She graduated from St. Patrick High School, class of 1943. In true Irish Catholic tradition, she lived at home with her mother on Abbott St. until her mother’s passing. She worked as the branch librarian at the South Lawrence Library for 39 years until her retirement in 1986.
Elaine enjoyed reading, line dancing and traveling. She was involved in a number of local organizations, including the Garden Club of Lawrence, where she served as President. She was also a 50 year member of the Sodality of St. Patrick Church, the Rainbow Club, and the St. Claire League of Catholic Women, where she was an active board member until this past year.
Elaine was the beloved matriarch of the Cassidy family and loved by the Najuchs. Her home in Methuen was the focal point for many holiday gatherings. She was a devout Catholic, said the Rosary daily, and participated in a prayer line for those in need. She never forgot a family birthday or anniversary. Later in life, she cherished her daily phone calls with friends and family. Until her last days, she kept a twinkle in her eye and a lilt in her voice.
The family would like to thank Elaine’s friends and neighbors, Joyce and Bob Waldie, for their devoted care and love that helped to preserve Elaine’s independence at home for so many years.
Elaine will be deeply missed by her 2 brothers, Thomas A. Cassidy of Hudson, MA and Charles E. Cassidy and his wife, Adrienne, of Lawrence; her sister-in-law, Beatrice Cassidy, of Lawrence; 3 nephews, Gary T. Cassidy, and his wife, Mary-Jo, of Seattle, WA, Dr. Charles P. Cassidy and his wife, Dianne, of Natick, and William Cassidy and his wife, Barbara, of Dover, NH; her niece, Theresa Cassidy, and her spouse, Christina Cassidy, of Sarasota, FL; Nicholas R. Mulick and his wife Michelle of Attleboro, MA, and many other great nieces and nephews; and godmother to many. Elaine was predeceased by her brother, Robert J. Cassidy.
