Edna M. Houde's Obituary
Andover, MA - Edna M. (Buote) Houde, affectionately known as "Grammy Ed," passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, at the age of 102.
Born on December 13, 1922, in Lawrence, Edna was the daughter of the late John and Celina (Myers) Buote. She received her education from Sacred Heart School and was a lifelong resident of the Merrimack Valley.
"Grammy Ed" was well-known for her love of bingo and casino trips. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, convincing each one that they were “her favorite.” She loved having her nails painted, chocolates, eating seafood and sharing stories of her younger years. Throughout her life, she enjoyed her daily soap operas, game shows and The Golden Girls.
She was predeceased by her husband, Philip; her parents; her son, Dennis Houde; her son-in-law, William Sullivan; sisters, Ida Buote, Irene Somma, Theresa Smerdon, and Rita Scanlon; and brothers, Emil, Edward, Gerard, Joseph, Raymond, and Leo Buote.
Edna will be deeply missed by her loving children: Barbara Sullivan of North Andover, Janice Almonte and her partner, David Rice of Kansas and Lynne Davis and her husband, David of Kansas. She was a devoted grandmother to five granddaughters: Kelly (Yogi) Kawa of Middleboro, Colleen (Daniel) Avedikian of Westport, Robin (Donald) Dowd of Salem, NH, Sherri (James) DeLucca of Haverhill, and Carolyn Kennedy of Kansas. She was a loving great-grandmother to Angela, Trevor, Nicholas, William, Emily, Donald Jr., Gianna, and James III. She is also survived by two great-great grandchildren, Jayden and Addison, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to honor Edna’s life at her calling hours on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 2-4 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Her funeral service will follow at 4 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
