Dorothea "Dotty" M. Dowd's Obituary
Dorothea “Dotty” Dowd, 92, of Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully at Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, in Methuen, surrounded by the love of her family. Born into a life of resilience, Dotty was orphaned at the age of eight when her mother, Grace (Valencourt) Gagne died. Despite the incredible hardships that she had to endure, Dotty grew into a strong, vibrant woman who built a life centered on family, friendship, and her faith in God. She was married for fifty-one years to the love of her life, Robert Dowd, who predeceased her in 2007. Together, they raised four children and shared in the joys of nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Dotty had a zest for life that grew from her meaningful connections with those she knew and loved. She was an active member of the Raytheon Women’s Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Elks of Lawrence, MA. Whether she was on the lanes bowling, trying her luck at bingo, or out on the dance floor, Dotty brought energy and joy wherever she went.
A talented and devoted cook, Dotty was known for her delicious meat pies and traditional French dishes, which were staples at family gatherings and cherished by all who had the pleasure of sitting at her table. Dotty’s strength, warmth, and generous spirit will be remembered by everyone whose life she touched.
Her legacy lives in the many hearts that now mourn her passing; her son, Wayne LaCroix and his wife, Joyce of Fredericksburg, VA, daughter, Janeanne Calden of Lawrence, MA, daughter, Donna Dewhirst and her husband, Jim of Conway, SC, daughter, Debra Dzioba and her husband, Bud of Salem, NH, cherished grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, Sandra, Stephanie, Laurie, Christine, Melanie, Andrea, and Amanda, as well as sixteen adored great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are warmly invited to calling hours on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA. A Funeral Service for Dotty will start at 11:00 AM on Monday, followed by burial at Elmwood Cemetery, N. Lowell St., Methuen.
