Joseph R Zaleski Jr.
Great Uncle Al was a kind, generous man. When I was a young boy, he even tried to gift me with some of his prized homing pigeons (but, of course, my mother said, “Thank you, but no!”).
As I grew older, he would often share with me his story of how he came to the United States, on a European ship bound for Canada—a heroic feat for a young lad in the face of World War and willingness to risk everything for an unknown land. And, of course, anyone who has ever met Al, would soon learn of his love for the U.S., and his deeply held belief that the “United States was the best country on Earth.”
I am saddened that his bright light will no longer shine for all to see. May he rest in peace, and his love for family and country serve as a reminder to us all. With my deepest sympathies, Joseph (Joey) Zaleski.
