William "Bill" Vlahos' Obituary
William “Bill” Vlahos, 93, of Methuen, passed away at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen on October 30, 2018. Born on July 16. 1925 to the late Charles and Angelina (Alpas) Vlahos, he was raised and educated in Haverhill, attending Haverhill Schools. A highly decorated WWII veteran, Bill fought at the Battle of the Bulge and received two Purple Hearts. After his service to the country, he worked for many years as a cutter in the shoe factories. He and his wife Maria owned the Pleasant Valley Superette on Rt 110 in Methuen. Bill enjoyed volleyball, bowling, basketball, tennis, racquetball and golf. He was a member of the Merrimack Valley Country Club. He also enjoyed the spending time with friends, family, playing cards and horse racing. Bill touched many lives in many different circles and will fondly be loved, cherished and missed by all.
Bill is the cherished brother to his sisters; Fannie Guvelis, Mary Johnson and Aspacia Girard. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Maria (Mariolis) Vlahos, his brother Peter Vlahos, his sister Tanda Zatsos, his nephew Teddy Guvelis and his nephew and godson Deno Girard.
Visitation for Bill will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 4 – 7 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 10 AM at Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, 156 Winter St, Haverhill, MA. Interment to follow at Linwood Cemetery, 41 John Ward Ave, Haverhill, MA.
