Victor Andreoli's Obituary
Victor Andreoli of Methuen died peacefully on April 15, at 104 years young, surrounded by his loving family. His passing rejoins him with his beloved wife Pasqualina (Lena) Andreoli (Pellegrino). Victor was born in Methuen on November 11, 1918, the son of the late Pasquale and Maria Castantine (Palumbo) Andreoli, but lived and raised in Italy. He returned to the United States at 18 with only ten dollars in his pocket. He served his country in WW II, a proud member of the Army 26th infantry division, traveling from Normandy Beach through the European Theater. In September 1944, the “Yankee” division landed in Normandy at several locations including Utah Beach. The 26th moved quickly through northern France and crossed the Saar River into Germany in early December. During the Battle of the Bulge, it was diverted to Luxembourg to thwart the German offensive. In late March 1945, the 26th crossed the Rhine River, eventually advancing to Thuringia before turning south towards Austria. On May 4, 1945, the division participated in the capture of the city of Linz, Austria. At war’s end, the 26th had moved eastward to Czechoslovakia.
Victor worked as a side laster for La Sande Shoe in Haverhill until his retirement. Victor was a devout Catholic and member of St. Lucy Parish. His happiest moments were when he was with his family cooking everything Italian for them, using food from his garden which was another passion. He loved dancing, woodworking, bowling, fishing, photography and traveling. He traveled to Yellowstone which he felt he was in God’s country. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
Victor will be deeply missed by his daughters, Janet Beck and her husband, William of Lawrence and Kathleen Hamel of Methuen; his son, Victor Anthony Andreoli and his wife, Paula Mackor of North Andover; grandchildren Sarah Hamel-Spight and her husband, Bral of North Andover, Kathryn (Katie) Hamel and her companion Will of Methuen, Leanne Hamel of Methuen and Jenny Beck and companion Dan of Attleboro; great grandchildren, Zyanna, Dominic, Amber, Brenna, Gianna, Xavier, and Giselle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
