Stephen McLaughlin's Obituary
Stephen M. McLaughlin, 62 of Andover, MA, passed away peacefully Friday February 14, 2020 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA, surrounded by his loving family and close friends.
Stephen was born on September 19, 1957 in Lawrence MA to the late Walter McLaughlin and Rita (Fairburn) McLaughlin, both of Lawrence MA. Stephen spent his childhood attending St. Patrick's School in Lawrence, MA and the Greater Lawrence Technical School in Andover, MA. He continued his studies in mechanical engineering at UMass Lowell.
Stephen was a devoted father and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially spending Sunday afternoons with his two children. Stephen loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hiking on the various trails and mountains throughout New England. Other pastimes included cycling, canoeing on Plug Pond in Haverhill, and above all else he was most passionate about golf. Stephen and his regular group could be found teeing off at the earliest time slot every Sunday morning at Hickory Hills Country Club in Methuen MA.
Stephen is survived by his two children, Caitlin McLaughlin and Timothy McLaughlin, both of North Andover, MA, his five siblings, Walter McLaughlin of Lawrence, MA, MaryJane Herbert of Haverhill, MA, Geraldine Maloney of Yarmouthport, MA, Gail Cassidy and her husband Henry of Yarmouth, MA, Francis McLaughlin and her husband Dr. Bradley Libenson of Barnstead, NH, 7 nieces and 7 nephews, 2 grand nephews and 1 grandniece, and his former wife and good friend Karen Mahoney of Hudson, MA, who played a pivotal role in Stephens care in his final days of his life.
Friends and guests are invited to call on Friday, February 21, 2020 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 9:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Parish, 118 S. Broadway Lawrence. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery of North Andover. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made directly to Dr. Daniel Costa, head of the Thoracic Oncology Research Fund at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, 330 Brookline Ave., Shapiro 913, Boston, MA 02215, in memory of Stephen McLaughlin.
