Samuel M. "Sam" Porfido's Obituary
Methuen, MA ? Samuel M. ?Sam? Porfido, 84, died Tuesday March 13, 2007 at Caritas Holy Family Hospital.
Born and educated in Lawrence, Sam had resided in Lawrence and Methuen for his entire life.
He had been employed by Holy Family Hospital for 17 years as a Security Officer prior to his retirement.
During World War II Mr. Porfido served his country in the United States Army. During the war he was involved in battles in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. At wars end he was the recipient of the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
He was a longtime baseball fan who enjoyed classical music,cooking, walking and Sam loved his pets. His family considered him to be a wonderful husband brother, and an amazing father and grandfather.
The widower of Yona (Risner) Porfido Sam is survived by daughters Debra M. Porfido of Methuen, and Donna Ellenwood & her husband Samuel also of Methuen, 2 sisters Rita Porfido of Lawrence, and Esther Rashid also of Lawrence 3 grandchildren James Kater of Bradford, Michael Kater of Hooksett, NH, and Shauna McIntire of Methuen and several greatgrandchildren.
A funeral mass will take place on Friday morning at 9 o?clock in Saint Monica?s Church with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen.
Friends may call on Thursday from 4-8 P.M. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street of Methuen.
