Ronald P. MacMillan's Obituary
Ronald P. MacMillan, 60, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, MA. Born on November 7, 1961 in Methuen, he is the son of Phyllis E. MacMillan and the late Donald C. MacMillan,
Born and raised in Methuen, MA, he attended St. Monica School, and Central Catholic High School in Lawrence. He attended Merrimack College where he earned a B.S. in Chemistry, summa cum laude, in 1983. He was a dean’s list student, presidential scholar and a member of the National Chemistry Honor Society. Following graduation from Merrimack College, he spent a year in residence at Brown University where he taught organic and physical chemistry. He obtained an advanced degree in analytical and environmental chemistry from the University of New Hampshire, where he was a Lester A. Pratt Graduate Fellow.
For many years he worked in the pharmaceutical industry until his retirement due to declining health.
He was active for a number of years volunteering his time to the Big Brother/Big Sister charitable foundation of New Hampshire. He had a passion for cars, enjoyed working outdoors and was known for his creativity and landscaping talents.
Besides his mother, he is survived by two brothers, Robert M. MacMillan, and his wife, Jo-Anna of Hampton, NH, and Michael J. MacMillan and his wife, Carol of Salem NH. He is also survived by four nieces, Melissa Hardy of Memphis, TN, Vanessa of Colorado Springs, CO, Lauren of Cambridge, MA, Stephanie of New York City; and a nephew, Jason of Salem, NH. In addition, he also leaves behind an aunt and two uncles as well as several cousins.

At the request of the family, there are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Monica Church, 212 Lawrence Street in Methuen. Guests are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen. In lieu of flowers and at Ron’s request, contributions may be made in memory of his late father to Multiple Myeloma Research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute or to Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer unit.
