Roland E. Lamirande's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Roland E. Lamirande age 96 on the morning of November 7, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at Prescott Nursing Home, 140 Prescott St. North Andover, MA.
Roland was married for 61 years to his sweetheart Teresa (Levesque) Lamirande until her passing on June 4, 2005. Roland was born and raised in Lawrence, MA. son of the late Gene and Rose Lamirande on July 17, 1921. Roland came from a large Catholic family. After finishing school in Lawrence, MA he joined the Army in World War II from 1942 to 1944. Roland was stationed in Alaska as a cook feeding his fellow servicemen. Roland married his beautiful wife Teresa (Levesque) Lamirande on November 4, 1944. They raised three wonderful children together Roland Jr., Ronald and Doreen.
After Roland's honorable discharge he started a cleaning business in Lawrence, MA. When the business closed Roland started driving for B&M, Cleary's and Ronnie's Taxi. It was the perfect job because Roland loved people. He had a great personality and loved to socialize with everyone. His daughter Doreen bought B&M Taxi and her father and brother Roland Jr. worked for her. When Roland retired he was the driver for his children and grandchildren. Roland took them to school, the mall, the rollerskating rinks and just about anywhere they wanted to go.
Roland loved to fish with his sons and grandsons, enjoyed family gatherings on Sunday's at Salem Willows in Salem, MA. He was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Most of all Roland cherished his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Roland traveled to watch his grandsons and granddaughter race B.M.X bicycles. He was always in the front row of his daughter and granddaughter's dance recitals.
Roland and his wife Teresa's home was always open to family and friends, especially around the holidays. Teresa enjoyed cooking for her family.
When Teresa became ill, he took care of her. Roland stayed by her side in the hospital and nursing home until she passed on her birthday June 4, 2005 surrounded by her loving family.
Roland is survived by his son Ronald and wife Rosemary Lamirande of Methuen, MA. Ronald's children Steven and wife Sarah of Fremont, NH. Erin Lamirande and Jennifer Lamirande of Methuen, MA. His daughter Doreen Bartlett and partner Richard Mrozoski of Pelham, NH. Her children Peter Bartlett Jr. and partner Christine Bradley of South Lawrence, MA. Ashley (Bartlett) Pelletier and Jason of Pelham, NH. Daughter in-law Sandra Lamirande and her daughters Michelle (Lamirande) and husband Francisco Almestica of Claremont, NH. Kelly Lamirande and partner Al Perez of Salem, NH. Brothers Robert Lamirande of Methuen, MA and Paul Lamirande of Lawrence, MA. Sisters Marie Bison and Lorraine and husband Tommy Davis of Virginia. Great grandchildren Jessica, Christian, Eian, Anthony, Alina, Adam, Alison and Francisco Jr. Roland also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Roland is predeceased by his wife Teresa (Levesque) Lamirande, son Roland E. Lamirande Jr., sister Terry and brothers Gerry and Chanel Lamirande.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Prescott Nursing home for the wonderful care and comfort during his stay there especially on his final days.
Roland's wishes were to be cremated. Friends and guests are invited to call on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home, immediately following calling hours, beginning promptly at 12:00 Noon. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery of North Andover.
