Rocco E. Zambino's Obituary
Rocco E. Zambino, 96, a longtime resident of Methuen, passed away peacefully at the Mary Immaculate Nursing and Restorative Center in Lawrence on March 10, 2020. Born on February 16, 1924 to the late Rocco and Martha (Torromeo) Zambino, he was born, raised and educated in Lawrence graduating from Lawrence High School with the Class of 1941. Like many of his generation, Rocco proudly served his nation during WWII as a US Marine serving in the Pacific Theater. After his honorable discharge from the military, he worked in the family business at the Zambino Sand & Gravel Company, where he successfully ran the business with his wife, his nephew Louis and his niece Christine.
A lifelong devout Catholic, Rocco was a communicant for St. Francis’ Church in Dracut. He was a member of the Lawrence Elk’s and the Arlington Club and enjoyed the many simple pleasures of life; racing pigeons, playing tennis and racquetball. Additionally he loved to travel, spending time at his beach house in Seabrook, NH and trying his luck at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.
Rocco is survived by his sister Madelyn Platek, his niece Christine Mitchell & her husband Robert, his niece Cheryl Platek, his nephew Louis Zambino & his wife Linda, all of Methuen, his niece Joanne Melillo of Atkinson, NH and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Rocco was predeceased by his beloved bride Genevieve S. (Platek) Zambino in September, 2018 and his brother Louis Zambino and his wife Olga, his brother-in-law Joseph Platek and his nephew Anthony Melillo.
Visitation for Rocco will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 9 - 10:30 AM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 14, 2020 11 AM at Saint Monica’s Parish, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Interment to follow at Bellevue Cemetery, 270 May Street, Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rocco’s memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The Kenneth H.
