Robert Douglas McNeil's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Robert (Bob) D. McNeil, who left us on June 17, 2026, at the age of 75.
Born on November 12, 1950, in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Bob worked at Malden Mills for 45 years (his entire career) until it closed in 2016, except for a time when he joined the United States Marine Corps to serve our country. After the military, he worked his way up the ranks at Malden Mills, meeting many people including his wife, Marie. He shared 45 loving years of marriage with Marie and together they created a lifetime of cherished memories, raising a family and celebrating all of life’s joys together.
Bob cherished time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie. His son, Eric McNeil, and his wife, Monica, of Newbury, Massachusetts. And his daughters, Karen (McNeil) Trainor and her husband, Dennis, of Derry, NH and Amy (McNeil) Kierstead and her husband, Adam, of Milford, NH. He also leaves behind his precious grandchildren, Emily, Olivia, and Lucas as well as several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
He had a passion for gardening and found great joy in nurturing flowers, vegetables, and the beauty of the outdoors. His garden and his yard were his masterpieces – it was a reflection of his patience, care, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He also enjoyed travelling, friendly card games, scratch tickets and his New England sports teams. He appreciated the thrills, the friendships made, and the stories that came from all those experiences.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend whose presence brought laughter, wisdom, and warmth to those fortunate enough to know him. Though his passing was sudden, the memories he created will remain with his family and friends forever.
“Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear.”
Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate his life, share memories, and honor the legacy he leaves behind. Calling hours will be on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 9am – 12pm at the Methuen Family Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. His funeral service will follow in the Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Cemetery Mausoleum in Lawrence after the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you plant a tree or flowering bush in his memory, honoring his love and creating a living reminder of the love, kindness and beauty he brought into all of our lives.
