Robert J. Hamel's Obituary
Robert J. Hamel of Methuen, died December 23, 2019. Mr. Hamel was a retired Chief Petty Officer of 21 years for the U.S. Coast Guard, serving in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also retired from Raytheon and Lockheed Martin companies. Mr. Hamel was a lifelong Methuen resident, graduating from Central Catholic High School and Fitchburg State College. He was devoted to St. Theresa’s Church. He was a supporter of St. Basil’s Salvatorian Center and Lazarus House Ministries. He was also a precinct and voting warden for the Town of Methuen for many years. He also enjoyed many years skiing at Burke Mountain, VT.
He is the widower of Olivette L. (Morency) Hamel and is survived by his daughter Paula and her husband John Daher of Boston, MA, son Stephen and his wife Lisa of Reading, MA, sisters; Joan and her husband John Castaneda of, CA, Jacqueline and her husband Isaac Pipkin of NC, Sandra and her husband John Rivard of ME. Grandchildren Olivia, Alexandra and Clayton Daher, Gregory and Tyler Hamel and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to call on Saturday, December 28, 2019 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at St. Anthony Maronite Church, 145 Amesbury St. Lawrence. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place immediately following calling hours, beginning promptly at 11:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Lazarus House Ministries, P.O. Box 408 Lawrence, MA 01842.
