Rene E. Lavoie's Obituary
Rene E. Lavoie, 92 of Methuen, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at Lawrence General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Smith) Lavoie, to whom he was married for 67 years.
Rene was born in Methuen on July 4, 1932. He was the son of the late Arsene and Noemie (Lanouette) Lavoie. Rene proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, serving aboard the USS Samuel B. Roberts (DD-823). He worked as a floor layer for Elliot Flooring in Lawrence and then at Arlington Floor Covering in Lawrence before working in the engineering department at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen for thirty years, until his retirement. Rene was a fine craftsman and artesian and was a perfectionist with his craft. He made beautiful homemade gifts for members of his family. He loved passing on this knowledge of woodworking and general repair to his family. He was always just a phone call away when needed. He also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Rene built an amazing fish pond and enjoyed feeding the fish in his pond. He also loved dancing with his wife. He especially took pride in and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Rene will be deeply missed by his wife, Patricia A. Lavoie of Methuen; five children, Linda Dolce and her husband, Kenneth, of Windham, NH, Sandra Lavoie and her long-time partner, Paul Harrop, of Yarmouth, MA, Patricia MacIsaac and her husband, Glen, of Hampstead, NH, Rene M. Lavoie and his wife, Cheryl, of Hudson, NH, and Kimberley Lavoie of Sandown, NH; his sister, Beatrice Johanson of California; six grandchildren, Eric Dolce, Amy Napolitano, Colin MacIsaac, Patricia Ann Jenckes, Shawn Lavoie, and Sarah Lavoie; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, P. Robert Lavoie.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Rene’s life by gathering for his Funeral Mass, which will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Our Lady of Good Counsel, St. Theresa Church, 22 Plymouth Street, Methuen. Guests are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
