Raymond J. Marshman Sr's Obituary
Raymond J. Marshman Sr, 84, of Windham passed away on June 2, 2019 at the Community Hospice House of Merrimack in Merrimack, NH surrounded by his devoted family. Born on December 17, 1934 to the late Charles F. and Evelyn B. (Landry) Marshman, he was raised and educated in Methuen, graduating with the Class of 1952 from Searles High School. After high school, Raymond accomplished a remarkable feat of graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Bentley College in two years, he graduated with the Class of 1954. Like so many of his generation, he felt the call of service and enlisted in the United States Navy. Proudly serving his country for a career the lasted for over two decades, Raymond served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring in 1974. After retiring from the Navy, Raymond embarked on a new career path and worked for Jackson Lumber for another 20 years.
A devout lifelong Catholic, he was a communicant at Saint Monica’s Parish in Methuen and St. Thomas Aquinas in Derry, NH. Raymond was a devoted New England sports fan and loved being close to the horse track. Known as the patriarch of his family, he was a kind and selfless man, who was very outspoken. Raymond lived life on life’s terms and will be fondly loved, cherished and missed by all.
Raymond is survived by his three children; his son Raymond Marshman Jr, of Hudson, NH, his daughter Barbara Nilsson and her husband Steve of Windham, NH, and his daughter Debra Gagne and her husband Reginald of Concord, NH. He was the proud grandfather to Erica and Timothy DeSerres and the cherished brother to Robert Marshman of California. Raymond is also the dear stepfather to Patrick Lawrence and his wife Lisa of Cheektowaga, NY, Mike Lawrence and his wife Lisa of West Seneca, NY, and Kelly Badura and her husband Wade of Sloan, NY. He was also the step grandfather to Brianne, Brittanie, Jordan, Victoria, Jenna, Mark and Kara of Bow, NH. Raymond is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sarah Lee (Ketner) Marshman who passed in October, 1993 with who he shared 34 years of marriage and his second wife, Rose M. (Baumgartner) Marshman, who he shared 21 years of marriage, passed in November of 2017. Ray was also preceded in death by his sister Shirley Hadfield.
Visitation for Raymond will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 4 – 8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 11 AM at Saint Monica’s Church, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Interment to follow at Cemetery on the Plains, Windham, NH.
