Philip J. Lahey Jr.'s Obituary
Philip J. Lahey, Jr. 76, of Methuen, died on Monday, July 22, 2024 at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, MA.
Philip was born in Lawrence, MA on May 7, 1948 and was the son of the late Philip J. and Lena M. (Grassi) Lahey.
Philip was raised in Methuen and was a graduate of Tenney High School, Class of 1966. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army and later graduated from Northern Essex Community College with a degree in Criminal Justice. He worked for the city of Methuen in the DPW department for 33 years until his retirement. He was very active within the city of Methuen, serving as a councilman. He was the co-founder of Merrimack Valley Prevention and Substance Abuse Project, co-hosted TV shows and podcast “The Empty Chair: Exposing Addiction,” as well as facilitating the “Circle of Hope” a support group for the loved ones of addicts. Selflessly helping others, breaking the stigma of addiction, prevention and education were his passion and legacy. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and relaxing on his recliner with his dog Bailey.
Philip was the beloved husband of Francine M. Lahey. He was the loving father of David M. Lahey and his wife, Suzanne of Derry, NH., Colleen J. Lahey of Methuen, MA, David M. Dougenik and his wife, Lisa of Lynn, MA., Laurie A. Dougenik of Lynn, MA. He was the cherished grandfather of Emily Lahey and Cameron Lahey, Madison Dougenik and Danielle Dougenik. He was the brother of Paula Moore. He is also survived by all those who knew him well.
A Visitation for relatives and friends will be held in the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen on Sunday, July 28, 2024 from 2:00pm-5:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home Sunday, July 28, 2024 at 5pm.
