Peter Francis Coryea's Obituary
Peter Francis Coryea of Salem, NH, passed away on October 14, 2021, at the age of 83. He passed away at Lawrence General Hospital from complications of Covid 19 and kidney failure. Born on October 26, 1937, in Barre, Vermont to Francis and Marie (Lehoux) Coryea, Peter grew up in Waterbury, Vermont. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in Vermont. He also obtained a Mechanical Engineering degree from Purdue University in Indiana. He spent his career working as a Mechanical Engineer and retired from Fenwal Safety Systems in 2000.
Peter and his wife, Estelle (Guerin), were married at St. Andre Church in Biddeford Maine on July 4, 1960; they celebrated 61 years together. He was the director of the Cub Scouts pack 160 Drum and Bugle for 5 years. He was a devout communicant at Saint Monica’s Church and also taught CCD for many years. He built an oak shrine for St. Monica’s and also built a bell house for the stone tower at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery entrance. He loved wood carving, carpentry and gardening. After retirement, Peter and Estelle enjoyed spending their winters in Venice, Florida.
Peter is survived by his loving wife, Estelle, and his five sons – all living in NH: John Coryea (wife Maria) and stepson JR; Jim Coryea (wife Joyce) and their children, Andrew and Lauren, and her husband, Patrick; Tom Coryea (wife Pattie) and daughter, Jamie, and husband Jamie; Mark Coryea (wife Diane) and their children, Madalyn, and fiancé, Wesley, Joshua and Samantha; and Paul Coryea (wife Lynne) and their children, Matthew, Julia and Natalie. Peter is also survived by his twin sister, Patricia (husband Wirosio) Snihurowych, of CT, and their daughter, Mariyka; and, his younger sister, Theresa McGarghan, of VT, and her son, Michael (wife Kelley) and daughter, Paula (husband David).
Calling hours are Tuesday, October 19, 2021, from 4 – 7 pm at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home at 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen, MA. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 11 am at St. Monica’s Church, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary - Immaculate Conception Cemetery on 29 Barker St. in Lawrence, MA.
