Patricia "Pat" Y. Belanger's Obituary
Patricia “Pat” Y. (Blackwell) Belanger, 88, of Methuen, MA, passed away on Saturday October 26, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
Born and raised in Lawrence, MA, she was a graduate of St. Mary High School, Class of 1953.
Pat was predeceased by her mother, Norma Lyons Swift and step-father, Frank Swift.
Pat’s grandchildren were her pride and her joy. She enjoyed vacationing with them, visiting them in South Carolina and taking them shopping. She gave them advice and held conversations with them as only a grandmother can. In 2010, Pat traveled to Ireland, her ancestral soil, sightseeing and shopping, with a memorable visit to Belleek in Enniskillen.
She loved reading and listening to music, including the crooners and jazz. Pat had a great sense of humor and loved being around people who made her laugh, and making them laugh in turn. Her laugh was contagious. She shared that laughter with friends and co-workers at TD Bank where she worked for 23 years. Pat felt gratified by her volunteer work at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen at the front desk. She was always there with a lending hand and heart for people in all aspects of her life. She was also not one to mince words. She always let people know where she stood on a topic, even if that was not precisely to the listener’s desire.
Pat enjoyed hosting holiday dinners for family, extended family, and friends. She produced a slate of excellent recipes, well tuned and practiced over the years. All enjoyed her Hello Dolly desserts.
Pat will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Normajean Belanger of Haverhill, MA, son, Laurence Belanger of Myrtle Beach, SC, daughter, Paula DeSimone and her husband, Andrew of Gloucester, MA, grandchildren, Courtney, Jude, Michael, and Megan, great grandchildren, Etta, Jedidiah, and Jericho and by her best friend of many years, Marilyn Zenevitch.
The family would like to thank the exceptional, compassionate caregivers and friends at Nevins Nursing Home, Constellation Hospice and Methuen Village Assisted Living.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to calling hours on Friday November 1, 2024, from 4 pm to 6 pm, at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA. A Funeral Service will follow at 6 pm in the funeral home.
Pat’s request in lieu of flowers (since she was allergic) was that donations be made to St Jude’s Hospital for Children, her favorite charity, the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity dear to your heart.
