Pat was an integral, and unforgettable, part of my youth. In the late1950’s Pat was our coach for the Holy Rosary Celtics in the youth basketball league at Central Catholic. Once or twice a week, Pat would pick up Ron Pollina and myself on Milk Street and drive us to practice at the Canteen on Lawrence Street or the Holy Rosary garage. Pat was extraordinarily patient with a group of rambunctious kids. He taught us basketball, but more importantly he taught us kindness, teamwork, and a whole lot more.
Pat was also a heap of fun. Who can forget his arranging to take us to the Boston Garden to see Bill Russell, Cousy, and the amazing Celtic teams of the 50’s? Or playing on the Boston Garden floor at halftime with the “under 100 lb” team.?
Rest In Peace, Pat. You were an inspiration and a truly good person.
