Norma F. Cunningham's Obituary
Norma F. (Slack) Cunningham, 75, of Salem, NH, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at her home. Born on March 10, 1948, in Methuen to the late Norman and Harriet (Greaves) Slack, Norma's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and a profound dedication to education.
Norma was raised in Methuen and received her education in the Methuen school system. She later graduated from UMass Lowell, marking the beginning of a remarkable 37-year career as a teacher. Norma touched the lives of countless students during her tenure at the Tarbox and Arlington Schools in Lawrence until her well-deserved retirement in 2005.
An avid reader and a woman of many talents, Norma found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed crocheting, crafts, knitting, and the art of storytelling through her travels. Her green thumb and love for nature were evident in her flourishing gardens, where she found solace and beauty. Norma also had a wonderful sense of humor, and a good joke could always bring a smile to her face.
Norma is survived by her beloved daughter, Kristen L. Cunningham and her fiancé, William Rennie III of Salem, NH; her cherished granddaughter, Gracyn E. Cunningham; her siblings, Steven Slack and his wife, Kris of Salem, NH, David Slack and his wife, Peg of Hampton, NH, and James Slack and his wife, Cheryl of Methuen; as well as her beloved goddaughter, Amanda (Slack) Brooks and her husband, Jamie and their two daughters, Anna And Ellie; her beautiful niece, Courtney Slack and her partner, Christopher Regis;and wonderful nephew, Cameron Slack. Norma's great-grandchildren, Lola and Max, two chihuahuas who were loyal companions for over 16 years, also brought immense joy to her life.
At the heart of it all, Norma will be remembered for her perpetual smile and the sparkle in her eyes that lit up any room. She leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Per the family's wishes, all services will be private. Norma's memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her impact on education and the lives she touched will endure through the countless students she inspired.
