Muriel Claire (Dreisel) Mahoney's Obituary
Muriel Claire Mahoney, 97, longtime resident of Methuen, passed away on March 5, 2021 at Lawrence General Hospital with her beloved family by her side. Born in Lawrence on August 8, 1923, to her late parents William and Kathryn A (Donnelly) Dreisel, she graduated from Lawrence High School with the Class of 1941. After high school, Muriel believed in the value of a secondary education and graduated from Boston University. As a devout lifelong Catholic, she was a communicant at Saint Monica’s Parish. Muriel loved the many simple pleasures in life; drawing, cooking, baking, going out and socializing with friends and spending time with her family. Muriel was also a member of the Turn Hall during her youth and also enjoyed listening to classical musical, painting and loved ballet. She touched many lives in many different circles and will fondly be loved, cherished and missed by all.
Muriel is survived by her deeply devoted husband, Dennis J. Mahoney of Methuen, with whom she celebrated over 71 years of marriage together. She is also survived by her three dear children; her daughter Suzanna C. Mahoney of Haverhill, MA, her son Richard D. Mahoney of Methuen, and her son James K. Mahoney and his wife Leann of Newburyport, MA. Muriel was the proud grandmother to Emily and her husband Gregory of Salem, MA and their child.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Saint Monica’s Parish, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. Interment to follow at the Elmwood Cemetery, 110 North Lowell Street, Methuen. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Muriel’s memory to Massachusetts General Hospital, Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, face masks will be required at the church and cemetery. Social distancing must be followed and if you have a health or other underlying concern, please do not attend.
