Miguel Efrain Lopez's Obituary
Miguel Efrain Lopez Cepeda, 77 of Methuen, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH.
Born in Ecuador on June 15, 1941, he was the son of the late Segundo Lopez-Pazmino, who was a Captain of the Military in Ecuador, and the late Isabel Maria Cepeda-Vera. He received his bachelor’s degree in broadcasting in Ecuador. He worked for Radio Condor and radio Del Pacifico in Guayaquil, Ecuador before emigrating to Lawrence.
He was the first candidate for state representative for Latinos in 1973, a Republican Party member of Lawrence, a member of the Justice of the Peace of Massachusetts, a Chapter member of the Latin Lion Club 1974/1975, and a member of the Ecuadorian Club. He was also director of job training at Malden Mills in Lawrence, CETA Programs-1976, a 1980 Censor recruiter, a social security representative in Roslindale, MA, a Notary Republic, and a recruiter for the Girl Scouts of America.
He worked for 27 years as a financial assistance social worker with the Department of Transitional Assistance – Lawrence welfare office. He was also a radio journalist with station 1400 FM WLLH in Lowell, a newspaper reporter of the MUNDO newspaper in Boston, and a volunteer DJ for 25 years with 91.5 FM WJUL in Lowell.
Miguel will be deeply missed by his 4 children, Sharelle Devlin and her husband, Jon of Methuen, Miguel E. Lopez, Jr. of Boston, Rudy Lopez of Lawrence, and Loreen Lopez of Lawrence; 12 grandchildren; and his great grandson.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Miguel’s life by gathering for his calling hours at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 4-7 PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 AM on Saturday at St. Lucy’s Church, 254 Merrimack Street, Methuen. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
