May Stone's Obituary
May (Ellis) Stone, age 96, of Salem, NH passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 3, 2021. She was born on December 29, 1924 in Methuen, MA and was the youngest of the late Frank and Ellen (Sullivan) Ellis’s seven children. She was predeceased by her husband, William Stone, and her siblings.
Most recently May was a resident of SalemHaven where she was treated with compassion and dignity. Prior to that May lived independently until age ninety-four at Millville Arms in Salem, NH for more than twenty years. She loved her quiet apartment looking out on the woods and was grateful for the friendship and thoughtfulness of the other residents, particularly Jane, who carried her groceries upstairs for her. She was also blessed with the friendship of Matina Cunningham who helped keep May’s spirits up as she faced new challenges during these past few years.
Throughout May’s life she was an avid letter writer. She was the special link between multiple generations of her family. In return, her days were brightened by a letter or card delivered to her mailbox bringing news from acquaintances around the world.
May is survived by her nephew, David Kimball and his wife, Lyn of Methuen, MA; her nephews, Stephen Ellis of Derry, NH, and Kenneth Ellis of Salt Lake City, UT; as well as many grandnieces/nephews, great-grandnieces/grandnephews, and her stepdaughter-in-law, Jean Stone of Spanish Fort, AL.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen at a future date. For online guestbook, please visit the funeral home website, www.pollardfuneralhome.com. The Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home is honored to serve the Stone Family.
