Matthew H. Baxter's Obituary
Matthew Henry Baxter, age 90, husband of the late Marie Longo Baxter, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024 with family and friends by his side at High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill after a brief illness.
Born in Lynn, MA to Leroy Baxter and Bridie M. Baxter Cronin, he served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. Matt was married to his loving wife Marie for 58 years until her passing in 2017. Marie was his world and family and the church were priorities. Matt worked for several years at Raytheon and GE.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Frederick B. Cronin, Jr., Gordon J. Cronin, Ralph W. Cronin, Joseph A. Cronin; sisters, Helen I. Beauchamp, Kathleen Cronin, and Geraldine F. Cronin; brother-in-law, John P. LoPresti, Jr.; and sister- in-law, Patricia A. Longo.
Matt is survived by sisters, Margie A. Cronin and Mary A. Cronin-LoPresti; brother, Adrian M. Cronin and his wife, Diane; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Angeline J. (Longo) Powell and Hartley A. Powell; his brother-in-law, Anthony J. Longo; sisters-in- law, Linda Cronin, Helen Cronin, and Donna Cronin; his niece and Goddaughter, Judith L. Powell; his nephew and Godson, James C. Longo; nephews, Mark A. Longo, Adrian Cronin, Jr., Michael LoPresti, Ralph Cronin, Jr., Gordon Cronin, Jr.; nieces, Bridget Cronin, Briana Billias, Kristen Thomas, Colleen Anderson, Terri Hickey, Kathy Wilson, Christine Treantos, Karen Winchell, and Susan Cronin. He is also survived by many friends including neighbors, Ron and Shela Covey.
Thank you to Kathy, Paul and others at Visiting Angels Newburyport for assisting Matt over the past year and to everyone at High Pointe Hospice House for the exemplary care and compassion given to Matt in his final days. Matt’s caring nature toward others will be missed by so many.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Matthew’s life with visiting hours on Friday, July 12, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at St. Monica Parish, 212 Lawrence Street in Methuen. Interment to follow at St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, donations in Matt's memory may be made to the MSPCA Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
