Mary G. (Zappala) Barberio's Obituary
Mary G. (Zappala) Barberio, 100, lifelong resident of Lawrence passed away at the Mary Immaculate Nursing Home on May 16, 2020. She was born in Lawrence on September 8, 1919 to the late Sam and Grace (Messina) Zappala. A devout lifelong Catholic, Mary was a member of St. Rita’s Society and the Holy Rosary at Corpus Christi Parish. She enjoyed the many simple pleasures in life; spending time with family and friends, loved fashion, shopping, dining out and spending time at the beach. Mary will be loved, cherished and missed by all.
Mary is survived by her two beloved sons; Joseph Barberio and his longtime companion Judith Fischer of Liberty, ME and Gerald Barberio of Lawrence. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Agnes Zappala of North Andover and several generations of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her husband Fred Barberio on May 16, 1985, with whom she celebrated over 40 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers Frederick and Joseph Zappala.
