Mary A. Valcourt's Obituary
Mary Ann (Toohig) Valcourt, 95 of Lawrence, passed away peacefully at her home on June 6, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late Albert J. E. Valcourt.
Mary was born January 21, 1927, the daughter of the late Timothy and Catherine (Walsh) Toohig. She attended St. Patrick Grammar School in Lawrence and graduated from St. Patrick High School, class of 1945. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and flower gardening. By far, the thing that gave her the most pleasure in life was being a devoted mother and having family and friends gather around her, especially for Thursday Night Supper.
Mary was a lifelong communicant at St. Patrick Parish in Lawrence, and St. Michael Parish in North Andover. Her faith was everything to her. It brought her comfort in hard times, and deepened her joy in good times. She had a special devotion to Our Lady, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Perhaps that is why she was such an amazing mother herself. She was a member of Our Lady’s Sodality, St. Patrick’s Altar Guild, and sewed many Baptismal robes. She lived her life serving others and the Church, but very quietly, in the background. She never asked for, and was embarrassed by recognition.
Mary will be deeply missed by her 11 children, Albert P. Valcourt and his wife, Linda of Hampden, ME, Michael T. Valcourt and his wife, Darlene Coursey of Monroe, NH, Daniel J. Valcourt and friend Jacqueline Clayton of Lawrence, John F. Valcourt and his wife, Dr. Robyn Stott DC of Methuen, Mary E. Fougere and her husband, James of Center Barnstead, NH, Alice A. Piessens and her husband, Frank N., Jr. of North Andover, Catherine P. McCarthy and her husband, Francis of County Tipperary, Ireland, Raymond G. Valcourt and his wife, Kim of Methuen, James E. Valcourt and his wife, Antonette of Plaistow, NH, Francine E. Valcourt and her husband, Brian Gigliotti of Lawrence, and Robert P. Valcourt and his wife, Christine of Methuen.
Nana will be missed by her 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Cissy leaves behind her sisters Catherine McCarthy of Lawrence, Eileen (Helen) Mueller of Cicero, NY and Sr. Elizabeth Toohig, S.C. of East Islip, NY. She was predeceased by her brothers Michael Toohig, John Toohig, and Rev. Timothy Toohig, S.J. and her sister Ann Hickey.
She will also be dearly missed by many grandchildren-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends who are considered family.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Mary’s life by gathering for her calling hours, which will be celebrated from 1:00 pm to 6:00 PM on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday at St. Michael Parish, 196 Main Street, North Andover. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in North Andover. At the request of the family, face masks are required at the funeral home and at the church.
