Mary A. McGowan's Obituary
Mary A. (Sullivan) McGowan, age 87 of Lawrence passed away peacefully on August 8, 2022. Mary was born in Methuen on February 9, 1935 to the late Joseph and Mary (McKinnon) Sullivan. She received her bachelor’s degree from Lowell Teacher’s College and received her master’s degree from Salem State College. Mary was a long time teacher at the Bruce Annex School in Lawrence and St. Mary’s Grammar School. She was a former communicant of St. Monica’s Parish of Methuen. Mary enjoyed gardening, bird watching, spending time at Seabrook Beach, traveling with her husband Frederick, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary was the beloved wife of Frederick T. McGowan with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Mary Beth Reid and her husband Richard, and Joseph F. McGowan and his wife Verna. Mary was the loving grandmother of Patrick Reid, and Erin Reid and her fiancé Christopher McAuliffe.
Friends and guests are invited to call on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Monica’s Parish, 212 Lawrence St. Methuen. Fr. Patrick Armano to officiate. Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery of Methuen. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 309 Waverly Oaks Rd. Waltham, MA 02452.
