Mary Lucille "Mary Lou" (Cordeau) Emmons' Obituary
Mary Lucille “Mary Lou” (Cordeau) Emmons, 94, of Kennebunkport, Maine died peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, September 20, 2020.
Mary Lou was born on March 16, 1926, on the family farm in Methuen, MA. She was the daughter of Wilfred and Alexina (LeVeille) Cordeau. Following graduation from Searles High School, Mary Lou briefly worked in the Arlington Mills in Lawrence, until she saw an advertisement at the Post Office seeking nurses during World War II. Mary Lou joined the Army Corp of Cadet Nurses. She attended nursing school at St. John’s Hospital in Lowell, MA, and trained in Baltimore, MD. After graduation, she worked at a nursing home in North Andover. She met George Emmons while he worked as a taxi driver, as he regularly began picking her up at work to bring her home.
Mary Lou and George married and raised their four children in Methuen. She worked third shift at the Nevins home, was involved with many community activities, and was considered the neighborhood nurse. In 1990, she and George moved to the Emmons Clock Farm in Kennebunkport, ME. She enjoyed restoring and being the steward of the historic property.
Mary Lou was a life-long learner. She attended classes at Northern Essex Community College and the University of New England. She was an avid reader, enjoyed music, genealogy, gardening, and going to flea markets. She had an incredible memory for details and dates.
Mary Lou is survived by her children Melissa Emmons of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Jennifer Emmons of Vermont, Robert Emmons and his wife Ellen of Reading, her daughter-in-law Doris Emmons of North Andover. Her grandchildren Danielle Emmons and her fiancé Vincent Riggi, Matthew Emmons, Rachel Emmons and Lauren Emmons. She also leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law Paul and Lisa Cordeau of Newton, NH, brother- in-law Herbert Ripley of Lecanto, FL, several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mary Lou was predeceased by her husband George, her son Thomas Emmons and her sister Helene Ripley.
Visitation for Mary Lou will be held on Friday, September 25, 2020 from 4 – 7 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. To honor her wishes, all other services will be privately held.
