Mary K. Bateson's Obituary
Mary K. Bateson, 91, of Andover, MA, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, surrounded by loving family at her residence, Bridges by Epoch at Andover.
Mary was born October 19, 1929 in Lawrence, MA, daughter to the late Thomas and Catherine O’Donnell. Mary grew up in Lawrence and attended St. Mary’s High School. While on vacation, she met her future husband Jim on the Hampton Beach boardwalk and they married in 1954. Despite having six children, she always kept a meticulous house! Mary was very creative and enjoyed painting porcelain dolls, sewing, crocheting, and floral arranging. She owned and loved canaries and dogs over the years.
Married for 64 years, she was pre-deceased by her husband James Jr. Mary is survived by her six children: Neil (Cindy) Bateson of Methuen, Maureen (Jimmy) Barenboim of Andover, Laurie Bateson of Hampton, NH, Todd (Pat) Bateson of Andover, Tammy (Steve) Barry of Westport, CT and Shaun Bateson of Andover. Mary is also survived by sister-in- law, Teresa O’Donnell and her fiancé Jim Daly, of Maspeth, NY, as well as cousin, Mildred Driscoll of Andover. Affectionately known as “Nani,” Mary had ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and grand-nieces/nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Tom and Jack O’Donnell and sister/brother-in-law Eleanor and Loring (Dup) Batchelder.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 11 AM at St Augustine’s Church, 43 Essex Street in Andover with burial immediately following at West Parish Cemetery in Andover. Guests are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. If you are unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed at www.staugustineparish.org.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Augustine’s School, 26 Central Street, Andover, MA 01810 or to Covenant House, 461 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY 10001.
