Marshall J. Rogers Sr's Obituary
Marshall J. Rogers Sr., 99 of Haverhill, MA died at his home on February 20.
Born in 1921 in North Andover MA, he was the son of Anthony and Margaret (DeRoche) Rogers. He was the 8th of 10 children. Living through the Great Depression, he made his living as a dairy farmer. Mr. Rogers enlisted in the U.S. Navy 7 days after the attack on Pearl Harbor and very proudly served in both the Atlantic and Pacific. He rose to the rank of Navy Chief, Quartermaster. Upon returning from WWII, he married the love of his life, Eleanor Fling Rogers in 1950 and shared 62 wonderful years together until her death in 2012. Together they raised 5 children, living in Lawrence and Methuen.
He worked over 30 years for New England Telephone as an equipment installer. Upon retirement, he and Eleanor enjoyed splitting their time between their cottage on Little Island Pond in Pelham NH and their winter home in Port St. Lucie, FL, returning to the local area full time in 2002. He was an avid woodworker and created many of his signature-piece rocking horses for family members and friends. He especially loved playing golf. He was a member of the North Andover VFW Golf League for many years.
Mr. Rogers spent the last 2 years living at Haverhill Crossings Assisted Living Community. The Rogers Family is extraordinarily grateful to the staff of Haverhill Crossings for their friendship and caring. Marshall loved the staff so very much.
He is survived by his 5 children; Marshall J. Rogers Jr and his wife Terry of Dracut, MA, John Rogers and his partner Denise Vogel of Hebron NH, Linda Sickorez and her husband Paul of Methuen, MA, Brian Rogers and his partner David Jones of Newington NH and Julie Holleran and her partner Eric Sweetser of Exeter NH. Survivors also include a very special son in law, Michael Holleran of Methuen and was predeceased by his son in law Edward Skandier. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The grandchildren include Christine Johnson, Debbie Wane, Alison Rogers, Kara Skandier, Mark Skandier, Cori Saragas, Eric Rogers, Nicole Rogers, Jessica Holleran, Emily Holleran, Camille Holleran
Funeral Arrangements are private due to COVID precautions. A funeral Mass with limited seating will be held Thursday at 10:30 am at St. Francis Church, 115 Wheeler Road, Dracut with an outdoor military funeral honors to follow. Interment will be privately held.
