Marjorie E. Hunter's Obituary
Marjorie Evelyn Hunter, age 95, of Methuen, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2023, with her family by her side. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Marjorie was born to Ernest and Mary (Gibbons) Stewart on April 2, 1927, in Epsom, New Hampshire, and is predeceased by her siblings; Vivian Lyons, Donald Stewart, and William Stewart. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Lawrence (1946), and then went on to achieve her hair dressing certificate at Wilfred Academy in Boston (1947). After working as a hair dresser and in customer service for Wang and Ricoh, she spent her senior years as a beloved member of the Westford Cameron Senior Center.
Marjorie met her husband, James Dwight Hunter, while dancing at the Lowell Commodore ballroom and they married on November 11, 1951, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Marjorie and James went on to have four children, James, Neal, Brenda, and Alison. Marjorie described James as the love of her life and missed him dearly since his passing in 2003.
Marjorie lived in many places throughout her life, including New Delhi, India with her young family, Jonesville, New York, and settling in Westford, Massachusetts for almost 45 years. But her favorite place was Sebago Lake, Maine. She visited Sebago Lake every summer for over 60 years with her husband, children, grandchildren, and relatives. Marjorie and James also hosted Christmas for a number of years, when she would sew holiday outfits for her girls, make her signature potato salad, and black moon whoopie pies for dessert. Her family is grateful to have so many wonderful memories and traditions that they will cherish for years to come.
Marjorie is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, James and Patricia Hunter of Westford and Neal and Joyce Hunter of Methuen; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Richard McAtavey of Rollinsford, N.H., and Alison and Anthony Carlo of Methuen; grandchildren, Danielle and Nicholas Bartlett, Michael Hunter and Kimberly Mitchell, Carolyn and Jim Ripley, Gregory and Sarah Hunter, Shane Carlo, Dylan Carlo and Jessica Leno; great granddaughter Katherine Hunter; and brother Raymond Stewart.
