Maria De Lourdes Silveira's Obituary
Maria De Lourdes Silveira, 86, of Derry, NH, died peacefully on March 20, 2020 at the Salem Haven Nursing Home.
She was a former school teacher from Faial, Azores Portugal who retired in 1985 and moved to Massachusetts to help her son, Jose Silveira, and daughter-in-law, Maria Silveira, care for her 3 grandchildren; Melinda Burwell, Michelle Vieira, and Bryan Silveira and later, her 7 great grandchildren; Jacob, Aidan, Gavin, Callan, Addison, Tyler, and Ian.
Maria was a devout Catholic who attended church as often as she was able and spent much of her free time watching mass on television. She loved crocheting and knitting and would proudly give her creations to any new people she met. As a result, many people now have one of her crochet carnations or a butterfly refrigerator magnet.
Along with the family she helped raise, she is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Helena Silveira, her sister, Manuela Mendonca, and her brother, Carlos da Silva. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tiago Silveira, her son, Luis Silveira, and her brother, Jose Silva. Most importantly, she leaves behind a legacy of caring for others and many memories, fond and otherwise, that her relatives will cherish.
Visitation for Maria will be held on March 24, 2020 10 AM - 12 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A funeral service will be held immediately following. Interment to follow at Bellevue Cemetery, 270 May Street, Lawrence. The Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home is proud to serve the Silveira family.
Please note, that due to the current situation with COVID-19, attendance will be limited to 25 guests.
