Maria T. Montero's Obituary
Maria Teresa Montero, 66, of Lawrence, MA passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024 at her home.
Maria Teresa was born in San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic on December 7, 1957, and was the daughter of the late Francisca Viola Florentino and Manuel Emilio Montero.
Raised in San Juan, Maria Teresa later graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Universidad Mundial Dominicana, and she earned her master’s degree in Education from Framingham State University. For the last 30 years, Maria Teresa proudly served as a Spanish teacher for Lawrence Public Schools. Known by her students as Ms. Castillo, she loved teaching her students the importance of education and career development. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, taking care of her many indoor plants, keeping up with politics, and shopping for good deals.
Maria Teresa was the loving mother of Jennifer Castillo and her husband Justin Thornton of Washington, D.C. and Alba M. Disla of Philadelphia, PA. She was the cherished grandmother of three-year-old Jemma C. Thornton and soon to be born grandson, due in March 2025. She is survived by her siblings: Maria Altagracia Montero, Clemen Florentino, Josefina Familia, Lorenzo Florentino, and Ana Rosa Florentino.
A Visitation for relatives and friends will be held in the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA on Thursday, November 14, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, 300 Haverhill St, Lawrence on Friday, November 15 at 10:00 a.m. followed by Entombment at St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Mausoleum, Lawrence.

María Teresa Montero, de 66 años, de Lawrence, MA, falleció el viernes 8 de noviembre de 2024 en su casa. María Teresa nació en San Juan de la Maguana, República Dominicana el 7 de diciembre de 1957, y era hija de la fallecida Francisca Viola Florentino y Manuel Emilio Montero.
Criada en San Juan, María Teresa se graduó con su licenciatura en contabilidad de la Universidad Mundial Dominicana y obtuvo su maestría en educación de Framingham State University. Durante los últimos 30 años, María Teresa orgullosamente sirvió como maestra de español en Lawrence Public Schools. Conocida por sus alumnos como Ms. Castillo, le encantaba enseñarles la importancia de la educación y el desarrollo profesional. En su tiempo libre, disfrutaba de la jardinería, cuidaba sus numerosas plantas de interior, se mantenía al día con la política y buscaba buenas ofertas en las tiendas.
María Teresa fue la amorosa madre de Jennifer Castillo y su esposo Justin Thornton de Washington, D.C. y Alba M. Disla de Filadelfia, PA. Era la querida abuela de Jemma C. Thornton, de tres años, y su nieto que nacerá en marzo de 2025. Le sobreviven sus hermanos: María Altagracia Montero, Clemen Florentino, Josefina Familia, Lorenzo Florentino y Ana Rosa Florentino.
Se llevará a cabo un velorio para familiares y amigos en la funeraria Kenneth H. Pollard, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen, MA, el jueves 14 de noviembre de 2024 de 4 a 7 p.m. hora del este. Se celebrará una misa de funeral en la parroquia de Santa María de la Asunción, 300 Haverhill St, Lawrence, el viernes 15 de noviembre a las 10:00 a.m., seguida del entierro en el mausoleo de Santa María - Inmaculada Concepción, Lawrence. La funeraria Kenneth H. Pollard tiene el honor de servir a la familia Montero.
