Lillian Skusevich's Obituary
Lillian Rose (Mazetis) Skusevich, 93 of Methuen, passed on to eternity on April 23, 2019 at the Nevins Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Methuen.
Born in Lawrence and the daughter of the late John P. Mazetis and Josephine (Boris) Mazetis, Lillian was 10 years old during the Great Depression when her family moved to South Boston for better economic opportunities. She attended the Andrew School, the Patrick F. Galvin School, and South Boston High School. During her teen years, Lillian was an accomplished swimmer and roller skater contestant. She met a future Lawrence veteran firefighter, Frank Skusevich, and married him on April 22, 1951. They settled in the Arlington District of North Lawrence to raise their family. Her professional career was one of being an administrative secretary at Marriner & Co. Inc., Becker Wallpaper Company, and Brockway-Smith Company. Lillian was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her radiant beauty, grace, and down-to-earth charm made every family celebration and visit special. Attending her sons’, grandsons’, and granddaughters’ sporting events was a given with Lil, as was rooting on her New England Patriots every Sunday.
Lillian will be deeply missed by her two sons, Thomas J. Skusevich and his wife, Maryellen of Milton, MA and Francis R. Skusevich of South Lawrence; 2 grandsons, Benjamin and Jake Skusevich and his wife, Lauren; 2 granddaughters, Julie and Kathryn Skusevich; and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her two brothers, John and Raymond Mazetis, daughter-in law Gina Skusevich and Lil’s husband, Francis T. Skusevich. Lillian enjoyed a special friendship with Leo and Ellen Palaimo and their son, Danny, who was her beach buddy, when she visited them in Florida. Lifelong friends, Terry Bastek Vogel of New Hampshire (deceased) and Ruth Ward in California held a special place in Lillian’s heart.
Lil’s family would like to extend a special thankyou for the assistance and expert support she received during her last years from all of her friends at The Cedars Home Community of Methuen, Merrimack Valley Elder Services with Connie Morgan, and the Merrimack Valley Elder Services Hospice Unit. The family would like to extend a special thankyou to the nurses and staff of the Nevins Nursing Home for making her last day so comfortable and peaceful.
At the request of the family, all services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, Brookline, MA 02445 or to the MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
