Laurier Joseph McGuire's Obituary
Rowley – Laurier Joseph McGuire, 92, passed peacefully in his home on Monday, July 27, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was the 7th of 8 sons born in Berlin, NH to the late Hugh and Angelina (Rheault) McGuire, both of Canada. Larry spent his early school years in Berlin, NH and young adult years in Lawrence, MA where his family moved for work in the cotton mills. He proudly served his country as a Marine during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945. While in Lawrence, he met his wife, Annette Corriveau of Forest Street, and recently, they celebrated 72 years of marriage in April. Larry’s career path led him to Raytheon and Avco as an engineer while living in Methuen.
In 1966, Larry moved his family to California until his recent move back to New England in March of this year. While in California, he worked in the astrophysics department on radar and antenna for TRW. He was proud to tell family and friends that his fingerprints are on the antenna of the Pioneer Satellite that has left our solar system.
He retired from TRW in 1990 at age 62, after years of secret government work. He travelled the country from coast to coast several times covering all states in his huge RV with his wife, Annette. He took such joy in his four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In his final hours, they brought the biggest smiles to his face. He loved telling corny jokes and was the first to laugh at them.
Larry will be deeply missed by his wife of 72 years, Annette (Corriveau) McGuire of Rowley; his daughter, Donna McGuire of Rowley; his three grandchildren, Melinda McGuire and her husband, Adrian Goldenthal of Phoenix, AZ, Letricia McGuire Tarrant and her husband, Rich of Newberg, OR, Reynold McGuire and his wife, Crystal of Georgetown, MA; 9 great grandchildren, Brittany, Jessica, Jordyn, Jalynn, Brayden, Bryson, Carter, Landon, and Thatcher; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Ronald McGuire of Lake Arrowhead, CA and his grandson, Travis McKinney of Amesbury, MA.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Larry’s life by gathering for his visitation on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 from 4-6 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. His celebration of life service will be held at 6 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home. Due to COVID-19 guidelines, face masks will be required at the funeral home and social distancing must be followed. If you have a health or other underlying concern, please do not attend.
