Kyung Shin Kang's Obituary
Kyung Shin Kang, 99, of Methuen, passed away on January 10, 2025, at the Lawrence General Hospital.
Kyung Shin was born in Pyongyang, North Korea on August 10, 1925, and was the son of the late Yuheung Kang and Jinmok Han.
Kyung Shin was raised in North Korea and escaped to South Korea during the Korean War in 1948. He decided to raise his family in South Korea and began working as a school teacher, later retiring after 40 years as an elementary school principal. He immigrated to the United States in 1985 and first lived in Boston later settling in Lawrence and Methuen. He was very social, and a very active member in his church. He served as a Staff Sergeant with the United States Army through KATUSA with the 4th Ordinance Battalion attached to the 8th Army during the Korean War and held great pride of his service, leading the Korean War Veterans Association of Boston for 9 Years, hosting numerous parades and events for the association. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kyung Shin was the beloved husband of Myung (Choi) Kang. He was the loving father of Chon Kang and his wife GeumSu Ahn of Lawrence, Sunok Kim and her husband Benjamin Kim of Newton, Dae Kang of Methuen and Hyo Kang and his wife the late Eun Kang of Methuen. He was the cherished grandfather of 7 and great-grandfather of 6. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held at St. Antoine Daveluy Korean Parish, 45 Ash St., Newton, MA on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 9am immediately followed by the Funeral Mass at 10am. Interment, St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Rd, Tewksbury, MA. Please meet at the church there will be no procession from the funeral home.
