Kurenai L Poisson's Obituary
Kurenai Poisson, age 68, of Ocala, Florida, passed away quietly at home on July 12, 2026.
Born on June 20, 1958, in Kyoto, Japan, Kurenai moved to the United States with her family as a young girl and settled in Orlando, Florida. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Microbiology from the University of Florida and later received her Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from Emory University School of Pharmacy in Georgia, graduating with highest honors.
Kurenai built a distinguished career as a pharmacist. She began as a radiation pharmacist with Mallinckrodt, then worked at Sav-On Pharmacy before joining CVS Pharmacy, where she was deeply respected by colleagues and patients alike. She excelled at everything she put her mind to.
A devoted daughter, Kurenai cared for her parents, Miyoko and Kazumi Kawaguchi, in their final days. She was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Pk Kawaguchi and Yoko Kawaguchi.
Kurenai was a brilliant, kind, patient, elegant, and devoted woman who loved life fully. She was an excellent cook and an avid traveler who touched every continent. She hiked extensively in the Sierra Nevada, climbed Mount Washington in the depths of winter, and summited Mount Kilimanjaro in her late 50s. In her final years, she found joy in playing pickleball.
In 1995, Kurenai married Richard Edmond Poisson just four months after they met. They shared more than thirty years of devoted marriage filled with love and partnership.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Edmond Poisson, of Ocala; her sister-in-law, Carol Kawaguchi; and her nephews, Tony and Patrick Kawaguchi of Orlando. She will be remembered with deep love and gratitude by all who knew her.
A burial will take place at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen, Massachusetts on Friday, July 31, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.
