Joseph Zappala's Obituary
Joseph Zappala, 90 of Lawrence, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at High Pointe House in Haverhill. He was the beloved husband of Agnes (Zieba) Zappala to whom he was married for 68 years.
Born in Lawrence on August 29, 1928, Joseph was the son of the late Salvatore and Grace (Messina) Zappala. Joseph graduated from Lawrence High School and then from the New England School of Art. He owned and operated the Continental Beauty Salon & Boutique with his dear friend Philip Gallant for more than 55 years. Joseph was an artist at heart with a keen eye for all things beautiful. He delighted in interior design, creating floral arrangements, cooking, singing, dancing, traveling and entertaining and caring for his family and friends. The boundless energy of his caring heart was easily seen in the way he lived his life.
Joseph will be deeply missed by his wife, Agnes; his children, David Zappala and his wife, Laraine of Homosassa, FL, Judith Caplan and her husband, Richard of Hopkinton, MA, Lisa Zappala of Andover, MA and Cathy Zappala of Methuen, MA; his sister, Mary Grace Barberio of Lawrence; 5 grandchildren, Lisa Wood, Michael Zappala, Lauren Caplan, Rachael Silletti, and Nora Caplan; 6 great grandchildren, Eva Wood, Owen Wood, Milena Zappala, Jacqueline Dubois, Marisa Zappala, Anna Dubois; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Frederick Zappala.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Joseph’s life by gathering for his calling hours on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 from 4 - 8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. His Funeral Mass will take place at 10 AM on Wednesday at St. Michael’s Parish, 196 Main Street, North Andover. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
