Joseph Golden's Obituary
Joseph A. Golden, age 93, of Groveland, MA formally of Lawrence and North Andover, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family. Born on December 21, 1928 in Lawrence to the late Michael and Isabella (Driver) Golden.
Joseph was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and went on to attend the University of Lowell (now UMass-Lowell) where he earned a degree in criminal justice. He went on to serve in the United States Marines for four years and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. Joseph also served in numerous posts of the Lawrence Police department, retiring as Lieutenant in the Detective Division after thirty years of service in 1987.
He was predeceased in 2013 by his loving wife, Irene (Belanger) Golden with whom he shared sixty-one years of marriage. In addition, he is predeceased by his brothers, James and John Golden; and sisters, Katherine Winn and Ethel Belanger.
Joseph leaves behind his three children, Michael Golden and his wife, Bonnie, Karen M. Golden-Smith and her husband, Lloyd of North Andover, and Joseph A. Golden and his wife, Claire of Haverhill. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Friday, July 15, 2022, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home, immediately following calling hours, beginning promptly at 12:00 Noon. Burial to follow at the St. Mary- Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to MSPCA at Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen, MA 01844.
