Joseph P. Casey's Obituary
Joseph P. Casey, 98, of Lawrence, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at his home. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Laliberty) Casey, with whom he shared 61 years of love and devotion.
Born in Lawrence, MA, on March 20, 1927, Joe was the son of the late Cornelius and Catherine (Reid) Casey. He graduated from Lawrence High School and the University of Vermont with a bachelor’s degree in economics. Joe also proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Joe dedicated 41 years of his life to serving as Chief Probation Officer with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Trial Court at Lawrence District Court where his deep sense of justice and desire to help others left a lasting impact. His work was not just a career but a reflection of his character. He also served on the board of the Massachusetts Chief Probation Officers Association, further showcasing his leadership in his field.
His unwavering commitment to his faith and community will be fondly remembered. A devoted communicant of St. Patrick Parish in Lawrence, Joe was a pillar of his faith community. He ran Monday night Bingo for many years and served on the Parish Council, always ready to lend his time and talents to the faith community that he was a part of since childhood. Joe was also a former member of the Lawrence Elks, where he enjoyed connecting with others.
Joe was known for his love of a good poker game and enjoyed his weekly game with his poker friends for many years. Always ready to lend a helping hand, his skills as a handyman were legendary within his family. Summers at Salisbury Beach were a cherished tradition, where he delighted in spending time with children and grandchildren and teaching them to bodysurf.
Above all, Joe’s greatest joy was his family. He took immense pride in watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow and thrive. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the importance of family.
Joe will be deeply missed by his four children, Joseph Casey and his wife, Michelle, of Hampton Falls, NH, Patricia Casey and her husband, Calvin Drenkhahn, of Plaistow, NH, Susan LeBlanc and her husband, John, of Plaistow, NH, and Kevin Casey and his wife, Laura, of Andover, MA. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Patrick Casey, Sean Casey, Julia Bailey, Connor Bailey, Ava Drenkhahn, Angela Robinson, Evan LeBlanc, Ryan LeBlanc, Meghan Casey, and Owen Casey; three great-grandchildren, Logan Casey, Levi Bailey, and Jack Casey; and several nieces and nephews. He was the last of his eight siblings, with whom he shared a lifetime of memories.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Joe’s life at calling hours on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, from 4 to 8 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Thursday at St. Patrick Parish, 118 S. Broadway, Lawrence, MA. Burial will be at a later time.
