My condolences to Jack Wagenbach's daughters Dyann and Donna and their extended family.
Jack was a close friend and a classmate through 4 years at Tenney High School. We both played football and basketball for the Methuen high teams. We spent many weekends at Canobie Lake Park in Salem, NH when we were not over at the Neil Playstead Field on Lawrence St., Methuen, playing baseball.
I knew Jack's brother Joe, his mother Jean and stepfather Fred Rostron. Jack and I would drive to Salem every week to see his father Joseph Sr., who was the original owner of Tasty Treat Bakery. (It had a different name when Mr. Wagenbach owned it during the 1950's.)
When I would come home on military leave, Jack and I would get together with all our close friends. After I was discharged from the Marine Corps, I made it a point to spend time visiting with Jack at Rostron's package store that he managed for his parents.
In our close knit group we all excelled in 45's card playing, Jack and I would team up as partners in weekly games at Marggraf's Tally-Ho Restaurant/Lounge, before we each got married.
Marggraf's was famous for the best chicken barbeque sandwiches north of Boston, and Jack Wagenbach introduced all of us to this special sandwich treat and to a friend, Paul Marggraf, who worked his culinary magic during the games.
Prior to my marriage, my future wife and I became good friends with Jack & Barbara (McGovern) when they got married, until their first born daughter graced their presence and dominated their spare time.
Barbara was a good friend and high school schoolmate who was extremely popular. Barbara & Jack were HS sweethearts and I saw them as a perfect loving couple before and after marriage. They will both be missed, but never forgotten.
Jack was a loyal friend and a good man. He will certainly be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Your good friend,
Tony Longo
