John Pitman's Obituary
John Pitman, age 91 of Methuen passed away on March 29, 2019. John was born in Lawrence on December 24, 1927 to the late Charles and Amy (McClure) Pitman. He was raised and educated in North Andover graduating from Johnson High School. He was a proud veteran of both the United States Coast Guard and the United States Air Force. John began his military service with the Coast Guard in 1945 and retiring from the Air Force in 1976. He also retired from the North Andover Public School system as a custodian. John was a Trustee of the Methuen Senior Activity Center. After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed reading to second graders in Methuen schools. He was an avid amateur genealogist studying his own genealogy and helping others study theirs.
John was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy “Monica” (Gosselin) Pitman with whom he shared 69 years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Jane Hamel and her husband Roger. John was the loving grandfather of Susan Denison and her husband Ron and Adam Hamel and his wife Christine Leone. He was the cherished great-grandfather of Matthew Banks, John Leone-Hamel, William Leone-Hamel and the late Joshua Banks. John is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in John’s memory to the Methuen Senior Center, 77 Lowell St., Methuen, MA 01844. The family would like to extend their profound thanks to the staff at Methuen Village and Great Lakes Hospice for the care and compassion they provided.
Friends and guests are invited to call on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM at St. Monica’s Parish 212, Lawrence St. Methuen.
