John J. "Jack" Mahoney's Obituary
John J. “Jack” Mahoney, 95, of Methuen, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen with his wife by his side. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Carter) Mahoney.
Jack was born in Lawrence on May 12, 1929, the son of the late Dennis J. and Josephine (Perry) Mahoney. He was a graduate of Lawrence High School in Lawrence. After graduation, Jack proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a purchaser of goods at Western Electric for many years until his retirement.
Jack was a dedicated member of the Merrimack Valley Bird Club, sharing many joyful moments with Peggy. In his free time, he loved traveling with Peggy, playing card games, enjoying online solitaire, and was also an avid runner.
Family is the one word that truly encompasses Jack. He was a loving and devoted husband. He and his wife, Peggy, were true soul mates and best friends. Jack was also a wonderful father. Leading by example, he taught his daughters about love, kindness, and respect by never speaking an unkind word about others.
Jack will be remembered as one of the good guys – a humble man, a family man, a kind and brave man, never forgetful of his roots. He enjoyed living a simple life, but anyone who sat in his presence would tell you that there was always a life lesson to be learned there. It is through those lessons and tremendous love that Jack’s memory will live on in those who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was predeceased by his 6 siblings, Doris Mahoney, Eileen Fay, William Mahoney, Claire Blaine, Dennis Mahoney and James Mahoney.
Jack will be deeply missed by his wife of 47 years, Margaret Mahoney of Methuen; daughters, Kathleen Lee of Sandown, NH, Patricia Baldwin of Michigan, and Linda McLaughlin of Derry, NH; grandson, Gregory Lee of Sandown, NH. In addition, he leaves behind several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Jack’s life by gathering for his calling hours on Monday, November 4, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. For directions or condolences, please visit www.pollardfuneralhome.com.
