Jamil R. Halaby Sr.'s Obituary
Jamil Rashid Halaby Sr., age 89, of Methuen, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at High Pointe House in Haverhill, after a short illness.
He was born in Dhour El Choueir, a mountain village in Lebanon. In 1957 at the age of twenty-six, he and his late wife, Georgette (Kamal) Halaby, moved to the United States and settled in Methuen, MA. They were married for fifty-eight years.
Jamil came from a long line of stone cutters and carpenters. He was an accomplished finish carpenter, later becoming a licensed Construction Supervisor. His pride and joy, along with his wife and family, was the house he built, that they lived in their entire lives. Later in life, he became an avid gardener and cook.
His grandchildren remember hearing Fairuz throughout the house while Sittu would cook and tell stories of their life and travels. His granddaughter, Alexandra was inspired to write a small book of poems dedicated to he and his wife.
Jamil was predeceased by his wife, Georgette (Kamal) Halaby; and son, Matthew Halaby; his sister, Evette; and brother, Antoine.
He is survived by his loving children, Effie Halaby of Methuen; sons, Mitchell Halaby of Methuen, and Jamil R. Halaby, Jr. and his wife, Beth of Methuen; and loving grandchildren, Jamil R. Halaby, III, Alexandra Halaby, Julianna Halaby, Matthew Halaby Jr., Erika Halaby, Whitney Marie Halaby and Olivia Halaby; and sister, Hayat of Lebanon.
